  • “An Oversight, Not Lack Of Knowledge”: Man Says Missing Comma Led To Job Rejection

The post triggered a debate among Reddit users about hiring practices in the tech industry.

A minor punctuation error – a missing comma in a SQL query – cost a job applicant a data engineering role, according to a Reddit post. The applicant, who shared the experience on the platform, described the hiring process as overly strict and questioned whether such rigid evaluations truly measured a candidate’s capabilities.

In the post titled, “Got Rejected Over a Missing Comma – This Market Is a Joke,” the job seeker said that they successfully cleared the initial interview at “a well-known company”, but then things went downhill during the second round.

“Had my second-round interview for a Data Engineer role at a well-known company (The name has a resemblance to ‘quantity’). Cleared the first round, and in the second, I answered everything correctly-except I forgot a comma between two column names while writing a SQL query in Notepad,” they said.

The user went on to add how the focus then shifted to this small oversight, stating the “interviewer went off on me for 20 minutes about relying on AI tools and IDEs, completely dismissing my experience working with complex analytical queries and building ETL pipelines at a leading CDP.”

The applicant ended the post, saying, “It was a simple oversight, not a lack of knowledge, but I still got rejected for it. Frustrating, to say the least. Any advice on navigating my first transition from DA to DE?”

The post triggered a debate among Reddit users about hiring practices in the tech industry. Many sympathised with the candidate, criticising employers for rigid and unrealistic expectations.

One comment suggested that the company was looking at a “silly reason” to reject the candidate, instead of genuinely assessing their skills.

Another user criticised unrealistic hiring practices, particularly time constraints in technical interviews. The user wrote, “A friend of mine recently interviewed in a company which asked him to solve 20 or so coding questions in 15 minutes. And they were proper questions. Even if they were simple easy questions, typing out a solution definitely takes more than 1 minute. Why even pretend that you’re hiring?”

One user mentioned their experience working with an Indonesian company, highlighting an inclusive approach to hiring. “Their approach wasn’t about rejecting candidates but about finding reasons to hire them,” wrote the user, adding, “If a candidate applied for a higher-level role (e.g., Level 3) but demonstrated skills more suited to a lower level (e.g., Level 2), they were offered that position instead, with a clear explanation of the reasoning.”

The initial Reddit post detailing the job rejection has since gone viral, with many more users calling out such hiring practices.

Another Reddit user recently shared a funny story of an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) graduate who resigned within 10 days of joining the company. The user revealed he was asked to train a account executive, an IIM alumnus. The trainee left his job within two weeks despite receiving a package of Rs 21 lakh.

  • ‘Jos Butler Bringing In Lot Of Experience And Knowledge’: Sai Sudharsan

Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan has expressed his thoughts on Gujarat’s win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Wedneday.

Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan has expressed his thoughts on Gujarat’s win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Wedneday. He highlighted the importance of Jos Butler’s experience in stabilizing the middle overs and delivering strong performances in the last five overs. In the post-match press conference, he emphasized that Butler’s knowledge and experience are crucial, especially on a challenging wicket. “I think it might be probably because of the left-right combination and having a bit more experience in number 3 and number 4 as you can see. I feel Butler is bringing in a lot of experience and a lot of knowledge in his back, which is helping us to settle or stabilize the middle overs and have an excellent last five overs. It was excellent, I feel, because the wicket was not as easy as we can see.” Sai Sudharsan said while speaking in the post-match press conference.

Sudharsan pointed out that the wicket was difficult, even for RCB in the first innings. However, he believed the wicket eased out slightly in the second innings. He praised Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for bowling exceptionally well. He concluded that the strategy was to take the game deep because the wicket wasn’t behaving as expected.

“Even RCB found it a little difficult in the first innings, but I felt it slightly eased out in the second innings, and obviously, they started well. The way Josh and Bhuvi Bhai bowled was extraordinary. So I felt the conversation was a bit, it was more of taking the game deep because right now the wicket was not playing the way we wanted.”

He highlighted the importance of having wickets in hand when chasing a low target on a difficult wicket against a strong bowling attack like RCB. He believed that wickets in hand are crucial to maximizing the team’s chances of winning in such situations.

“So slowly after 8-9 overs it got better and we maximized the most out of it. Sir, I feel whenever we chase a less target in a difficult wicket and a bowling like RCB which is one of the best bowling in the league this year. I feel the most important thing is wickets in hand,” he said.

Sudharsan has emphasized the value of his practice sessions with the Gujarat Titans’ high-quality international bowlers. He felt this exposure has helped him learn and adapt to different conditions. He also credited his experiences playing for India and other leagues for further deepening his understanding of the game and its fundamentals.

“The practice time I get here with the Titans, with the bowlers, all quality bowlers, all international bowlers. So I feel that has helped me even from the nets. I would say I got exposed to a lot of things, a lot of difficult conditions. So I have learnt a lot in these three years, and obviously playing for India and playing for all other leagues outside India, I feel it has helped me understand the game better and the basics of the game as well.”

He also acknowledged that despite the dropped catches, the fielders are still good and put in much effort during practice. He believed the issue might be due to adapting to different grounds and lighting conditions, as each venue has unique characteristics.

“I feel whoever dropped the catchers, they are still good fielders, and we put a lot of work in fielding every day in the practice. So I feel it’s just a matter of getting used to the grounds and getting used to the different lights because Ahmedabad is different, Bangalore is different, and next, Hyderabad will be a bit different. So I feel getting used to that is what we are missing, maybe,” he added.

After winning the toss, GT opted to bowl first, batting first, RCB was restricted to 170, which was a good bowling effort by GT. During the run-chase, GT lost their skipper Shubman Gill (14) early, but top knocks from Jos Buttler (73* in 39 balls, with five fours and six sixes), Sai Sudharsan (49 in 36 balls, with seven fours and a six) and Sherfane Rutherford (30* in 18 balls, with a four and three sixes) took GT to a win with 13 balls and eight wickets in hand.

  • CBSE Makes 50 Hours Of Annual Training Mandatory For Teachers

The training will cover three key focus areas: Core Values and Ethics (12 hours), Knowledge and Practice (24 hours), and Professional Growth and Development (14 hours)

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued fresh directives mandating professional development for school leaders and teachers across all affiliated schools. In two official notifications dated April 1, 2025, the Board outlined a structured training framework aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST).

According to the guidelines, all educators must complete at least 50 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) every year-half through CBSE or government training institutes, and the rest through in-house or local collaborative programmes. The training will cover three key focus areas: Core Values and Ethics (12 hours), Knowledge and Practice (24 hours), and Professional Growth and Development (14 hours).

The Board has also recognised a wide range of academic and evaluative tasks-such as board exam duties, research work, CBSE conference participation, and digital content development-as part of CPD hours.

For 2025, CBSE has announced STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) as its annual training theme. Schools have been encouraged to conduct District Level Deliberations (DLDs) to promote discussion and innovation in STEM teaching, with an emphasis on inquiry-based and interdisciplinary approaches.

All affiliated schools must comply with these updated norms. CBSE urged Heads of Institutions to lead the change by fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence.
